This is a 5 module course. Module A is the foundation but the other modules can be added or omitted subject to organisation requirements.
MODULE A – The Role of the Passenger Assistant – 3.5 hours
MODULE B – Assisting Passengers with Disabilities – 3.5 hours
MODULE B1 – Assisting Wheelchair Users in Transit – 3.5 hours
MODULE C1 – Supervising Children and Young People – 1.5 hours
MODULE C2 – Adults who require Care and Attention – 1.5 hours
This course has been developed for persons who undertake the role of passenger assistant (sometimes called escorts, carers, care assistants, chaperones or helpers)
PATS is for anyone who has care and/or supervision of passengers when travelling by road whether as a non – driving passenger assistant or as a driver/passenger assistant.
Organisations wishing to have this training must be members of the PATS scheme, membership is free.
Some of the many issues discussed in the course include:
- Passenger Assistants role and responsibilities
- Legal, practical and safety issues
- Health and Safety and Manual Handling overview
- Disability Awareness
- Emergency situations
- Persons with learning difficulties
- Sensory restrictions
- Emotional or Behavioural difficulties
- Correct use of wheelchair/safe use of lifts/ramps
- Correct use of wheelchair and passenger security equipment
This course includes a ‘hands on’ element and theory assessment. Successful candidates receive course hand-outs (or optional handbook) and a nationally recognised CTA PAT certificate.
